Never Shake a Baby

This course teaches parents the dangers of shaking a baby, and also teaches them how to cope with a crying infant.

Shaking frequently occurs when a frustrated caregiver loses control with an inconsolable crying baby.  When a baby is shaken, the brain rotates within the skull cavity, injuring or destroying brain tissue. According to experts, about one in five infants who are shaken die. The majority of the survivors are left with disabilities ranging from learning disorders and behavioral changes to profound mental and developmental retardation, paralysis, blindness, and coma.

It’s not enough to just say, “don't shake a baby” because that does not help parents learn different behaviors.   We teach parents how to cope with a crying infant, as well as helping them accept that it’s okay to let a baby cry if all their needs have been met.
